Serendipity. Over the past few years, I’ve become increasingly interested in dynamic languages, so naturally I was receptive to the ideas in Paul Graham’s Hackers & Painters. It was this book which brought Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs to my attention, and in particular the following quotation from its preface:
Programs must be written for people to read, and only incidentally for machines to execute.
So, when an invitation appeared on the accu general mailing list, I signed up.
